Position Description
Job Purpose
The Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is a senior finance leader responsible for driving enterprise-wide financial strategy, planning, and performance management for Lyles Construction Group.
This role leads the organization's budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and financial performance processes while partnering closely with executive leadership to shape strategic direction. The VP of FP&A translates financial and operational data into actionable insights that guide capital allocation, growth strategy, and business performance.
This position is designed as an evolving role. In the initial phase, the VP will be highly hands-on — personally building the FP&A function from the ground up, developing financial models, producing reports and dashboards, and executing core planning and analysis activities. As the department matures and the team scales, the role will progressively shift toward a more strategic, executive orientation — leveraging the insights generated by the FP&A function to influence executive decision-making, enterprise priorities, and long-term value creation.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves in Excel and an ERP as they are presenting to the Board — with the leadership capability to build, mentor, and scale a high-performing team over time.
A core expectation of this role is to critically evaluate Lyles Group's existing finance and planning processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and actively champion the adoption of modern tools — including artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and advanced analytics — to drive a smarter, faster, more insight-driven FP&A function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Responsibilities are expected to shift in emphasis over time from hands-on execution toward strategic leadership and oversight as the FP&A function is established and scaled.
Enterprise Financial Strategy & Planning
- Lead enterprise-wide financial planning processes, including annual budget, long-range plan, and strategic financial roadmap
- Personally lead the company's annual budgeting and long-range planning processes, including direct development of templates, models, and consolidation of inputs (hands-on initially; oversight as the team grows)
- Partner with the CFO and executive leadership team to align financial strategy with corporate objectives
- Drive scenario planning and strategic modeling to support major business decisions, investments, and growth initiatives
- Manage rolling forecasts and scenario planning to support leadership decision-making
- Provide forward-looking insights on financial performance, risks, and opportunities
Financial Analysis, Reporting & Executive Communication
- Deliver detailed financial analysis including variance analysis, trend analysis, and performance reporting (direct execution expected in the early stage of the role)
- Build and maintain executive dashboards and reporting tools to support business leadership
- Oversee development of executive-level financial reporting, dashboards, and KPIs
- Synthesize financial and operational results into clear, strategic insights for the C-suite and Board
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and transparency in enterprise financial reporting
- Translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations for leadership
Financial Modeling & Decision Support
- Personally build sophisticated financial models to evaluate growth opportunities, investments, and operational strategies during the initial build-out phase
- Develop financial models to forecast revenue, costs, cash flows, profitability, and operational performance
- Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity modeling to assess business risks and opportunities
- Over time, transition model ownership to the team while retaining oversight of modeling frameworks, assumptions, and methodology
- Ensure modeling frameworks support executive decision-making and long-term planning
Strategic Business Partnership
- Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership and operating company presidents
- Partner directly with operating company leaders and department heads to understand business drivers and financial performance
- Influence strategic decisions through financial insight, scenario analysis, and performance evaluation
- Support capital allocation decisions, including investments, growth initiatives, and resource prioritization
- Provide financial leadership on pricing strategy, project profitability reviews, margin optimization, and business performance
FP&A Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build, lead, and scale the FP&A function across the enterprise
- Recruit, develop, and mentor FP&A analysts and financial reporting staff
- Build a high-performing FP&A team focused on strategic insight and business partnership
- Establish best practices in financial planning, forecasting, and performance management
- Elevate the role of FP&A from reporting to strategic advisory as the team matures
Process Improvement, Systems & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Critically evaluate existing FP&A and broader finance processes, identifying outdated or inefficient practices and leading the redesign of workflows to be leaner, faster, and more scalable
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve financial planning processes, reporting tools, and data quality — initially hands-on, later through team and cross-functional partners
- Drive continuous improvement in financial planning processes, data quality, and reporting efficiency
- Champion adoption of BI tools, dashboards, and financial systems to enhance decision-making
- Support the implementation of BI tools and financial dashboards
- Partner with accounting and IT teams to enhance financial systems and reporting capabilities
- Collaborate across finance functions (accounting, treasury, tax) to ensure alignment and integration
- Establish scalable processes to support organizational growth and complexity
AI Adoption & Digital Transformation in Finance
- Actively embrace and champion the use of AI tools, automation, and advanced analytics to modernize FP&A activities such as forecasting, variance analysis, reporting, and scenario modeling
- Stay current on emerging AI and finance technologies; evaluate and pilot tools that can reduce manual effort, accelerate insight generation, and improve decision quality
- Partner with IT, data, and operations leaders to identify use cases where AI and automation can replace or augment manual work across the finance organization
- Develop and mentor the FP&A team in the responsible, effective use of AI tools, building a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and data-driven decision-making
- Ensure appropriate controls, data governance, and quality standards are in place as AI and automation are integrated into finance processes
Executive & External Stakeholder Management
- Engage regularly with executive leadership, Board members, and external stakeholders as needed
- Represent the FP&A function in executive forums, presenting insights, recommendations, and performance results
