- Specialty Pharmacy Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Manager (Hybrid)

University of Iowa Health Care’s Department of Pharmaceutical Care is seeking a full-time Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Manager to provide clinical leadership within the Specialty Pharmacy Program. This role primarily oversees pharmacists embedded within adult and pediatric multidisciplinary clinic teams and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule following successful completion of orientation. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in advancing clinical pharmacy services and may bring experience from front-line clinical practice, administrative leadership, or a combination of both. Training, orientation, and ongoing support will be provided to help develop or enhance the administrative, operational, and specialty pharmacy leadership skills needed for success in this role.
Duties include evaluating and improving clinical pharmacy services, supporting the development of new programs, promoting safe and cost-conscious medication use, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The manager will supervise clinical pharmacy specialists; lead recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management efforts; support staff competencies and credentialing; and serve on clinical oversight, quality improvement, and other relevant committees. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with pharmacy and clinic leadership, analyzing service outcomes, supporting billing and revenue-integrity processes, and fostering a high-performing team environment. Strong communication, strategic planning, personnel management, data analysis, critical thinking, and process improvement skills are essential for this role.
Requirements
Experience Requirements:
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1/PGY2 Residency or minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a complex clinical pharmacy environment.
- Ability and willingness to act as preceptor
- Job-related experience with and/or commitment to service excellence is required
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interest in ambulatory care.
Desired Qualifications:
- Job-related experience in ambulatory care pharmacy.
- A Master of Science in Pharmacy or healthcare/management related advanced degree such as an MHA, MPH or MBA is desirable.
- Experience with automation/technology, human resources management, project management and Epic electronic health record is highly desirable.
- Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification is highly desirable.
