Federated Hermes, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investment managers with over $902 billion in assets under management, is seeking an Equity Investment Analyst (Generalist) to join the Kaufmann investment team. The Kaufmann team consists of twelve seasoned investment professionals with deep experience in growth equity investing. The analyst will initially assume research responsibility for companies in the Industrials, Financial, and Energy sectors, with the opportunity to expand coverage across additional sectors over time based on team needs and the analyst’s strengths. This role is well suited for an intellectually curious passionate long-term growth investor with a strong desire to cover multiple industries while building relationships with company management. The position reports to the Senior Portfolio Manager and CoLead Portfolio Manager of the Kaufmann Small Cap Fund with over 27 years of investment experience and specialization in Industrials and Energy.
Position Specifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, coursework in Finance and Accounting preferred. MBA or CFA designation or significant progress toward is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of investment experience is preferred; candidates with slightly less buyside experience but strong analytical training and demonstrated passion in investing may be considered.
- Prior experience covering or analyzing companies in Industrials and/or Financials sectors is preferred; exposure to Energy is a plus.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to clearly present complex investment ideas.
- High level of intellectual curiosity, initiative, and work ethic, with a genuine passion for equity investing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bloomberg.
Major Duties:
Under the guidance of a Senior Portfolio Manager, conduct fundamental, bottomup equity research on companies within assigned sectors, including Industrials, Financials and Energy, and additional sectors as coverage expands.
Perform comprehensive investment analysis, including:
- Financial statement analysis
- Financial modeling and valuation
- Comparable company and industry analysis
- Assessment of industry structure, competitive dynamics, ESG considerations, regulatory environment, currency exposure, political risk, and macroeconomic trends.
- Generate differentiated investment insights and clearly articulate buy, sell, and hold recommendations to portfolio managers.
- Meet with company management teams, participate in earnings calls, attend industry conferences, and engage with sellside analysts to stay current on companyspecific and industry developments.
- Maintain ongoing coverage of portfolio holdings and watchlist names, proactively identifying changes in fundamentals, valuation, or risk profile.
- Contribute actively to team discussions and investment meetings, supporting a collaborative and intellectually rigorous investment culture.
The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 – $225,000. In determining salary multiple factors will be taken into consideration such as primary work location, experience, education and skill set.
