Position Overview:
The Controller is a key position on the Finance team to ensure that the team follows GAAP, maintains and safeguards the assets of the Foundation, and provides accurate and transparent reporting. This position provides assistance and support to the Chief Financial Officer in all financial matters and oversight of daily work of the finance team. Additionally, the Controller manages the annual audit and tax return process. The Controller collaborates with all levels of Foundation staff to provide excellent service to internal and external clients. This position will ensure and report on the timeliness of transaction processing on the finance team. The Controller manages, trains, and provides guidance to one or more Staff Accountants performing the majority of daily financial activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Manage monthly, quarterly and annual close process, and create and run financial statements for the Foundation and its support organizations
Supervise asset liquidations, transfers, and cash flow requirements
Prepare ad hoc reports for CFO and other internal and external clients
Review and maintain the depreciation schedule for the Foundation’s fixed assets
Prepare yearly spending levels for endowed funds and other year-end processes
Review and approve Foundation accounts payable and grants
Prepare adjusting and reconciling journal entries quarterly or as needed
Field questions from internal staff related to accounting and budgeting
Attend and participate in Finance and Audit Committees

Ensure accuracy of all general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations.
Maintain robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate financial and operational risk.
Work with team and IT department on continuous improvement and efficiency, implementation of new systems and safeguards

Assist Chief Financial Officer to prepare and monitor annual budget
Prepare audit schedules and coordinate with the audit team to provide assistance and reconciliations as needed for field work
Prepare or oversee, review and file certain necessary tax forms
Work with auditors to review audited financial statements, footnotes and consolidating financial schedules
Implements new accounting pronouncements
Responds to various internal and external questions and triage of requests
Working Conditions
Most of the work in this position is performed in a general office setting and the successful candidate must be able to work at a PC for extended periods of time. We are a hybrid organization typically working 2 days a week in the office.

Requirements
Qualifications for Success:
Education: BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or related field from an accredited four-year university is required.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Other Requirements/Skills: CPA or MBA desired (or similar relevant experience), Proficient in Word processing, spreadsheets, accounting software, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, email, banking and similar software. Adept with technology and process improvement.
Specific software experience with Oracle Netsuite, Salesforce and/or GiveInteractive software is of additional value.
