Position Overview:
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Finance, a newly created position that will play a critical role in supporting strategic initiatives and drive financial performance across the University. This position is responsible for financial planning, analysis, and partnering with unit business leaders to optimize financial performance results. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Operating Officer. UMCES has multiple site locations across Maryland for in office work, the position will be hybrid, with in office work with the ability to have some remote work abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote operational excellence and efficiency.
Partner with unit business leaders and leadership within University Administration to support strategic planning and decision-making
Make projections associated with potential changes in the University’s financial model
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics
Drive process improvements, automation, and standardization across finance functions

Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; MBA, MPA or CPA strongly preferred
6+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, preferably within a research university
Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial planning, and managing financial services.
Experience with ERP systems, Workday preferred
Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling
