Description
Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per weekThe Corporate Development & Strategy (CD&S) team works closely with the New York Life senior leadership to generate market and business insights, drive strategy development and execution of strategic initiatives, and enable senior leadership decision making. The CD&S group is composed of teams focused on strategic planning, internal strategy consulting, market and competitive intelligence, enterprise relationship management, and mergers & acquisitions.
The New York Life Markets and Competitive Intelligence team is focused on generating market- and data-driven insights to inform New York Life business strategy. Our team analyzes market and competitive intelligence in partnership with business and enterprise leaders to deliver information and insights to support management perspectives, planning, and decision making. We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join us as a New York City-based Market Intelligence Research Director who has excellent analytical research capabilities, robust strategy and financial services industry expertise, and strong presentation skills. As a member of the CD&S team, you will be a part of a group of highly skilled professionals with strong academic credentials and professional backgrounds in financial services, management consulting, and investment banking.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor industry trends impacting life insurance, annuities, investment management, and asset management sectors
- Author and present concise research presentations and memos focused on industry trends, marketplace updates, and key competitors with data-driven narratives
- Lead design and delivery of complex research projects that develop strategic perspectives and drive discussions with executive leadership
- Conduct industry research through professional networks (senior executives, investment bankers, external research firms, and consultants)
- Drive process innovation by applying emerging technologies-such as GenAI agents and third-party tools-to enhance research workflows and analytical capabilities across the team and internal partners
- Analyze information within using GAAP and statutory reporting frameworks and industry databases to identify strategic insights
- Share best practices and build collaborative working relationships with competitive intelligence stakeholders across NYL business areas
Desired Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in competitive/market intelligence with advanced background in research and analysis; experience should be from a leading investment bank, independent research firm, or financial services company
- Expertise in life insurance, annuities, investment management, and asset management sectors, and deep understanding of competitors, trends, and drivers of performance
- Strong business acumen to synthesize research, assess trends, and provide insights on key competitors and industry issues
- Superior executive presence, written and oral presentation skills, including experience developing and delivering C-suite research presentations
- Ability to work well autonomously, as well as collaborate on a team and in a matrix-environment
- Strong attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy
- Ability to successfully program and project manage several initiatives concurrently
- Proficiency with MS Office, industry databases and sources (e.g., LIMRA, Cerulli, S&P CapIQ), and AI capabilities
- Bachelor's degree required, MBA, advanced degree and/or CFA strongly preferred
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $180,500-$258,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
