Description
Merrimac Center, a secure juvenile detention center located in Williamsburg, Virginia, is seeking a financial manager who is responsible for the comprehensive management of governmental functions, including the financial, administrative, and operational support of the juvenile detention center employing approximately 70 staff. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position provides leadership in budgeting, budget projections, accounting, payroll, and purchasing.
The incumbent ensures fiscal integrity, compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, and efficient management of resources. They should possess strong analytical skills and be proficient in financial statement preparation. As a key member of the management team, the Financial Manager contributes to strategic planning and the achievement of the Center’s operational and financial goals. This role also participates in audit preparation and follow-up, maintains accurate financial records, and provides essential support for human resources functions, including Worker’s Compensation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration, etc.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, or related field required; emphasis in accounting or financial management preferred. MBA, MPA, or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
