About the Role
As CEO-in-Residence, you will serve as the CEO and lead Certified Industrial Hygienist for the Company under training and mentorship from the current leader. This role is ideal for a technically grounded and entrepreneurially minded professional seeking to take full operational and strategic ownership of an established small business.
You will manage day-to-day operations, lead the team of field and lab personnel, and oversee client relationships while steering the company’s next phase of growth. The role combines hands-on technical oversight with general management, business development, and leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Set the strategic direction and growth plan for the company in partnership with the board of directors and investors.
Manage all aspects of company operations, including finance, sales, compliance, HR, and client delivery.
Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Develop and implement performance metrics, SOPs, and modern management systems.
Technical & Compliance (CIH Responsibilities)
Serve as the company’s lead Certified Industrial Hygienist, overseeing quality control, regulatory compliance, and technical standards across all projects.
Supervise and mentor junior environmental specialists and field technicians.
Review and sign off on industrial hygiene reports, exposure assessments, and related documentation.
Maintain accreditation standards and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements.
Business Development
Strengthen and expand relationships with key clients, including government agencies, universities, hospitals, and private sector partners.
Identify and pursue new service lines or adjacent opportunities in environmental, health, and safety consulting, and acquisitions.
Represent the Company in industry associations and regulatory bodies.
Candidate Profile
Must-Haves:
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential, active and in good standing.
5–10 years of professional experience in industrial hygiene, environmental health, or related fields.
Demonstrated leadership or management experience — managing teams, projects, or business units.
Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and state environmental regulations.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
Prior experience in P&L ownership, operations management, or business leadership.
Entrepreneurial mindset — ability to balance technical rigor with business strategy.
MBA, MPH, or related graduate degree (optional but valued).
